TD-SCDMA Update May 5-11

China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou revealed on May 8 that the company has invested 14.2 billion RMB (US$2.03 billion; US$1 = 7.0 RMB) so far in deploying TD-SCDMA trial networks in eight Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qinhuangdao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Xiamen, XFN-ASIA reported. Overall, 14,300 base stations have been installed, more than 70% of which are distributed in the four cities of Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen. Wang also stated that China Mobile expects to kick off second-phase procurement of TD-SCDMA terminals soon, according to China's Sohu News.
